Time Management Tips

One of the keys to being able to manage your life is the ability to manage your time.

According to a recent Hearst/Roper study, most people would rather have more money than more time. However, those with the most money ($75,000+) and the highest level of education and professional success wish they had more time. Enjoying leisure time has become an oxymoron in today’s fast paced “what-have-you-done-for-me-lately” business world. The advent of technology has simultaneously made our lives simpler and more complex.

Today there are no more excuses; clients and supervisors can find you wherever you are--in the house, in the car, on the train, etc. Cellular phones, pagers, and the Internet have helped to free us from sitting in the office but not from the demands of office duties. At ShareGoals, we recognize that now, more than ever, people need to work SMARTER.

Consistently being the last to leave the office is not a badge of honor, nor is missing a parent teacher meeting admirable because you couldn’t get out of the office on time. We see these as signs of disorganization.

We are realistic and realize everybody will have occasion to stay late, to miss dinner, or to come home after the children go to bed. We all have times where we forget to mail the bills on time or to send a birthday card. There are times when we have missed the train because we were trying to do one more thing before we left the office--but these times should be the exception--not the norm.

The term “balance” implies equality exists between the two things being compared. The only way to truly find balance between your personal and professional life is to recognize that your personal life is just as important, if not MORE important, than your professional life. You must prioritize your personal responsibilities just as you do your clients and your job responsibilities. You have to adopt a course of action that will help you in both spheres.

You need Effective Time Management.
