3 + 3 = 1.2

The job share arrangement that ShareGoals has found to be the easiest for management to accept is when each partner works 3 days a week. In this scenario, the job share team reaches an agreement as to which days each person will work. Typically, one person works Mondays and Tuesdays while the other works Thursdays and Fridays, and both members work on Wednesdays. The team is technically considered to be 1.2 employees and each partner is paid 60% of a salary. This is a minimal investment with a big payoff for management.

Partners should use their one day together to the utmost advantage. This is the time to highlight the camaraderie and committment of the team. It is also the opportunity to prove to management that two heads are better than one and two bodies are more productive than one.

2 for the price of 1

This arrangement is the best option when benefits or office space and equipment are of the utmost concern. In this scenario, partners agree to split the week in half. Some teams work 2 1/2 days a piece which gives them time to catch up during lunch on their common day. Some teams have partners each work two days a week as outlined above except they alternate Wednesdays.

While teams that opt for this arrangement do not have the benefit of working side by side, they are more cost efficient from a management stand point. They operate as one employee and are entitled to all the benefits extended to other employees.

No matter how you slice it, the rules remain the same. The team must take precedence over the individual. The accomplishments and the responsibilities of the team must be shared equally by both members.

You and your partner must adopt a course of action that works best for the both of you. However, you must also take the needs of the company into account. Get management on your side by addressing their concerns upfront.
